How to Duplicate a Backtesting Session in TradeZella

Duplicate (copy) a backtesting session in TradeZella to reuse its drawings, layout, and markups, then re-execute your trades from the start.

Written by Marl

The Duplicate option creates a copy of a backtesting session that keeps your full setup — drawings, layout, markups, and settings — but starts from the beginning with no trades placed. This lets you run the session again without rebuilding it from scratch.

When Should I Duplicate a Session?

Duplicating is useful when you want to re-run a session you've already set up. For example:

  • Re-execute the same trades to practice them again

  • Test a different entry or exit on the same price action

  • Adjust your risk management and compare how the session plays out

Because your drawings, layout, and markups are carried over, you only need to place your orders again — not recreate your entire setup.

How Do I Duplicate a Backtesting Session?

  • Open Backtesting from the left sidebar and go to the Sessions tab.

  • Find the session you want to copy, then click the three-dot menu (⋮) at the end of that session's row.

  • Select Duplicate.

TradeZella creates the copy and opens it right away, with a "Backtesting session duplicated" confirmation. The new session also appears in your Sessions list with (Copy) added at the end of the name.

What Gets Copied

The duplicate carries over the session's full template:

  • Chart drawings, layout, and markups

  • Symbol(s)

  • Date range

  • Starting balance

  • Strategy

What Doesn't Carry Over

The copy opens at the start of the session with your original starting balance and no trades placed, so a few things don't come over:

  • Executed trades — the copy starts with zero trades, so you'll place your orders again

  • Tags, notes, and screenshots — add these to each trade after you re-execute it

⚠️ Note: If you duplicate an automated backtesting session, the copy becomes a manual session — you'll need to place the orders yourself. To re-run an automated session automatically instead, see How to Rerun, Modify, or Save Your Automated Backtesting Session as a Template.

💡 Tip: Rename each copy (for example, "Test 1 — tighter stop") so you can tell your versions apart when you compare results later.
