How to use Scenario in Backtesting

The Scenario tab keeps you on track during a backtesting session with a built-in preparation checklist, setup context, practice periods, sample trade, and strategy rules.

Written by Kathleen

When you start a session from a Scenario, a Scenario tab appears in the right sidebar alongside your other tools. It's your in-session guide — giving you everything you need to practice the setup correctly without switching away from the chart.

Preparation Steps

The Preparation Steps tab is a checklist to complete before you start trading. Each step guides you on how to set up your chart correctly for the Scenario — things like opening the right layout, adding indicators, and filtering the economic calendar. Tap each step as you complete it.

Once you've checked everything off, a "Nice job!" prompt appears, encouraging you to switch to the Rules tab and start playing the chart candle by candle, looking for the setup described in the rules.

Context

The Context tab gives you a full breakdown of the Scenario to reference while you trade:

  • The setup — what the Scenario is about and what conditions define it

  • What are you looking for? — a checklist of specific signals and conditions to identify

  • How to practice? — a numbered step-by-step guide for approaching each session

  • AI Assistant(Coming soon) Zella AI will be available here to answer questions about your rules, market context, and trade decisions

This is the same information shown in the Scenario preview before you started the session, kept here for reference while you trade.

Periods

The Periods tab shows the specific historical date ranges included in this Scenario. Each period shows the date, session duration, and time range.

The period you're currently on is marked 'NOW' so you always know where you are in the sequence, and each of the others has a 'Go to' link so you can jump straight to it.

Scenario Sample Trade

During your session, you may notice a Scenario Sample Trade marker on the chart. This is a reference trade placed by the Scenario creator showing how the setup looked on that specific day.

Click on it to open the full trade detail — including stats, chart, executions, and notes — so you can compare your own entries and decisions against the example.

Where do I edit the Scenario?

You can edit any Scenario from the Strategies tab in the left sidebar, then click into the strategy the Scenario is based on (e.g. "AMD Playbook") — from there you can view its performance and edit the Scenario itself.

That's it! The Scenario tab keeps everything you need — context, periods, rules, and a real example — in one place while you practice. 🎯
