Breakeven offset lets you define the range of values for a trade to be considered breakeven. Instead of a tiny win or loss being counted as a win or a loss, anything inside your range is marked as breakeven.
How Do I Access My Breakeven Settings?
Click your profile icon in the top-right corner.
Select Settings, then open the Trading tab.
Or go straight there: Trading Settings
How Do I Set My Breakeven Range?
Under Breakeven offset, choose whether to define your range in dollars ($) or percent (%) using the toggle.
Enter your lower limit in the From field and your upper limit in the To field.
Click Save.
For example, a range of -$10.00 to $10.00 means any trade that closes between a $10 loss and a $10 profit is treated as breakeven.
To clear your range and start over, click Reset to defaults.
How Is the Percentage-Based Range Calculated?
When set as a percentage, your breakeven offset is calculated from the Net ROI of each individual trade, not your account balance.
Net ROI = (Amount Returned − Cost of Investment − Commissions) ÷ Cost of Investment × 100
Example: You invested $185,199.56 and got back $185,113.24, with $0 commissions.
Net ROI = (−$86.32) ÷ $185,199.56 × 100 = −0.05%
Even though the trade lost $86.32, its Net ROI is only −0.05% because the position was large. With a range of −1% to 1%, it would be classified as breakeven.
A percentage range scales with position size. A dollar range applies the same fixed threshold to every trade.
💡 Tip: For the narrowest classification, set your percentage very small, such as 0.01%. Only trades landing almost exactly at breakeven will be marked that way.
Where Will I See Breakeven Trades?
All breakeven trades and breakeven days show in blue on your P&L calendar view, so they are easy to tell apart from wins and losses at a glance.
Does This Apply to Backtesting Trades?
Yes. The breakeven range you set here applies to your backtesting trades as well as your live trades, so your backtest results use the same definition of breakeven as the rest of your journal.
By following these steps, you can effectively manage and customize your breakeven settings in TradeZella.
