Understanding and Using Progress Tracker Rules

Learn how Progress Tracker rules work in TradeZella — mandatory and custom rules for the Prepare, Trade, and Reflect stages.

Written by Hamza

The Progress Tracker in TradeZella helps you stay disciplined and track your performance by applying a set of rules. Rules are organized into three trading stages — Prepare, Trade, and Reflect — and each stage includes both mandatory rules and any custom rules you add.

This guide walks you through how each rule works and how to check them off during your trading day.

How to Edit / Add Rules

To create or edit rules:

  • Go to the Progress Tracker page.

  • Click on the Edit Rules button at the top of the widget.

  • From there, you can edit/disable the default rules or create your own custom rules.

General Settings

These settings apply across all your rules:

  • Trading Days: Define which days you trade (e.g., Monday to Friday). All other rules will only apply on these selected days.

  • Streak Email Reminder: Turn on an email reminder for when you're about to lose your streak, and choose the time you'd like to receive it.

How Stage-Based Rules Work

Each rule belongs to one of three stages and is completed during the matching stage of your trading day:

  • Prepare rules are completed during the Planning stage.

  • Trade rules are completed during the Trading stage.

  • Reflect rules are completed during the Trade Review stage.

Mandatory Rules

Each stage comes with built-in mandatory rules. You can customize or disable any of them to fit your routine.

Prepare Stage

  • Start My Day By: Set a specific time to begin your trading day (e.g., 9:30 AM). Enter your starting journal entry before this time to check off the rule.

Trade Stage

  • Trading Hours: Set the hours you're allowed to trade, in a 24-hour format. Your current timezone is shown so you can set them accurately.

Reflect Stage

  • Link Trades to Playbook: All trades opened must have a playbook attached. This must be done before finishing your day.

  • Input Stop Loss to All Trades: All trades opened must have a stop loss added. You'll need to manually add stop losses to your trades to meet this rule.

  • Net Max Loss /Trade: Set the maximum net loss on a trade, as a dollar amount or a percentage of the trade's account balance (e.g., $100 or 2%). If the loss exceeds this limit, the rule will be unchecked.

  • Net Max Loss /Day: Define the maximum net amount you're willing to lose in a day across all your accounts (e.g., $400). Exceeding this amount will uncheck the rule.

Custom Rules

In addition to the mandatory rules, you can create custom rules for each stage to suit your trading and lifestyle routine. These rules are fully customizable, helping you build healthy habits beyond trading performance.

To add one, click +Add Rule next to the stage where the rule belongs, then choose which days it's active (e.g., Mon–Fri).

Example custom rules by stage:

  • Prepare: Forecast done, Check news, Meditate before session

  • Trade: Remain calm, Follow trading rules

  • Reflect: EOD Review

Manually check off custom rules during the matching stage of your day once you've completed them.

How to Finalize Your Day

Once you reach the Trade Review stage, review all your trades, rules, and notes. Then click Finish My Day to lock in your progress.

  • All rules will be locked and cannot be modified.

  • If any rules are left incomplete, they will remain unchecked, and you won't be able to modify them after finishing your day.

The Progress Tracker is designed to build consistency and discipline in your trading. By adhering to these rules, you can measure your progress, identify areas for improvement, and stay on track with your trading goals.
